WVSS HONOUR ROLL POLICY
The school maintains two Honour Rolls:
1. The Academic Honour Roll
2. The Highlander Honour Roll
The Academic Honour Roll will be calculated once a year using the final percentage marks for students in grades 8 through 11 and the term two marks for students in grade 12. Grade 12 students who do not maintain their marks in term three may not qualify for the Honour Roll. Those students who receive an “I” on their report card in any term will have their honour roll status calculated upon conversion of the “I”.
Grades 8-10
Students must be enrolled in eight courses. In Grades 9 and 10, the Academic Honour Roll is calculated on students’ seven best courses. In Grade 8, it is calculated on students’ six full year courses.
Grade 11
Students must be enrolled in eight full year courses.
The Academic Honour Roll is calculated on students’ six best courses. For I.B. Diploma candidates, honour roll status is calculated on their best five subjects; however, IB certificate students use their best six subjects.
Grade 12
Students must be enrolled in Career Life Connections in addition to at least seven other courses. The Academic Honour Roll is calculated on students’ six best courses. For I.B. Diploma candidates, honour roll status is calculated on their best five subjects; however, IB certificate students use their best six subjects.
The Honour Rolls will only be based on courses taken at West Vancouver Secondary School or with the West Vancouver School District from September to June.
External, Equivalency, Summer School, Challenge, Distributed and Distance Learning outside of West Vancouver School District, and Non-credit courses will not be included in the calculation of the Academic Honour Roll.
The Highlander Honour Roll recognizes students with an outstanding work ethic and provides an opportunity to honour those students who consistently demonstrate a high level of performance in this area. It will be run at the end of every term. Students must maintain G’s in every term and be enrolled in at least eight courses (credit or non credit).
Gold Cord
Students must have Honours with Distinction overall in grade 11. In grade 12, students must have Honours with Distinction in Terms 1 and 2.
